Dear friends,
The olive harvest is a special season for Palestinians. Olives are central to the Palestinian economy, and the harvest, which takes place this month, is a festive social and cultural event.
But for the thousands of families who are cut off from their lands by the Separation Wall, the harvest is bitter-sweet. These families can only reach their olive groves if the military grants them permits, and even then only during the limited times when the gates are open.
This year, we have seen more problems than ever before: farmers denied permits or stranded across the Wall waiting for soldiers to come open the gate; physical obstacles preventing tractors and carts from transporting the olive yield. HaMoked has already submitted dozens of appeals to the military and petitions to Israeli courts on behalf of farmers denied access to their farmlands.
HaMoked is the only organization that provides free legal aid to access land behind the Separation Wall. The need for this service is great all year long, but particularly now. We need your support to be able to respond to all those who require our assistance.
Sincerely,
Jessica Montell
Executive Director of HaMoked
